Mick Fanning and Taj Burrow were among the top seeds to fall on the final day of competition at the 2013 Rip Curl Pro presented by Ford on Tuesday. In pristine three-to-five foot (1 – 1.5 metres) conditions, rookie Nat Young (USA) was on a tear to the finals as he disposed of Taj Burrow (AUS) in the first major upset of the day. The drama continued as Adriano de Souza (BRA) ended the run of defending event winner Mick Fanning (AUS). Jordy Smith (ZAF) was one of the form surfers of the event but fell to de Souza by 0.04 in the closest heat of the day in semi-final two. In stormy conditions for the Final, de Souza showcased his powerful carving surfing and competitive edge against Young, amassing a combined heat total of (16.26) to be crowned the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach 2013 Champion.

Women Finals – Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach 2013

Carissa Moore (HAW) has claimed the 2013 Rip Curl Women’s Pro Bells Beach presented by Ford over Tyler Wright (AUS), in clean three to five foot (1 – 1.5 metre) waves today in front of a capacity crowd at Bells Beach. Moore opened the final with a 9.57 and then survived a twenty-five minute lull as both competitors anxiously waited for the ocean to cooperate. With two minutes remaining Moore secured a back up score of 5.83 with a combined heat total of (15.40) to be crowned the 2013 Rip Curl Women’s Pro Champion.

Minnesota’s own Cameron Naasz explains what it takes to compete in the fastest sport on ice. A sport all on it’s own, ice cross downhill challenges each athletes speed, agility and stamina as they race down an icy gauntlet.

To Cameron, it’s the skaters who never give up that will succeed. Naasz’s second place finish in Niagara Falls was sweet, but it’s his desire for first, a healthy fear of the unknown, and his willingness to perform in his hometown that just might give him the edge at Red Bull Crashed Ice – Saint Paul.

“Just go for it. Don’t live in fear of making mistakes, accept them as being part of life’s plan for you, so learn from them and do them right.” For 28-year-old Ryan Doyle, his favorite words are, “Get Over It”, which the young Parkour athlete follows “literally”.

Doyle’s new journey stops in Dubai. Joined by Kuwaiti Parkour athlete Mohammed Al Attar, the two explore the roots and history of the city. Although it’s mainly filled with rooftops, ironically it keeps him grounded and makes him appreciate every adventure he “jumps” or “flips” into.
